In this show, we talk to Anti-Racist Action member Jason Devine about the home invasion he suffered at the hands of neo-Nazis on the night of Nov 7-8, while his four children and wife were in the house. The Nazi thugs beat him and another friend with bats, hammers, and other blunt weapons. We discuss fascist and anti-fascist politics across Canada and throughout history.

Stop the Execution of Mumia / Bill C-49 – An Attack on Refugees – 08 November 2010

In this show, on the eve of the trial that may send Mumia Abu Jamal back to death row, we review his case, listen to some of his most recent radio commentaries, and play some musical tributes to the brother we all know to be innocent.

Also in this show, Radio Basics host Keerthy interviews lawyer Abimanyu Singam from the Tamil community on Bill C-49, the so-called “Human Smuggling” Bill that was introduced into Parliament on October 21, which many recognize to be an attack on refugees.

International Resistance to UN Conference on Migrants and Refugees – 25 October 2010

In this show, we interview Marco Luciano from Migrante Ontario about the upcoming International Assembly of Migrants and Refugees in Mexico which is being organized to oppose the UN’s General Conference on Migration and Development.

We also speak with La Bomba, a Toronto-based Chilean-Canadian rapper and artist who is working on the Latin-Afro-South Asia Festival in Toronto.

After local and international headlines at the top of the show,  we follow with a feature length interview with a Toronto-based FMLN activist Rene Guerra Salazar on the 30 Year Anniversary Celebration of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front at the Steelworkers in Toronto this past weekend.

At the end of the show we play a clip from the Canary Effect, in order to provide a critical look at Columbus Day in the U.S.

Later in the show, Kabir interviews David Poopalapillai of the Canadian Tamil Congress on the status of the Tamil refugees of the MV Sun Sea.

For our feature interview, we talk to Salma Al-Nadhir and Alok Premjee about this past weekend’s 3rd Annual J4A Ball Tourny against Police Brutality.

In this show, Dave and Kabir discuss the growing prison system, prisoners of conscience, and the struggle for prisoners justice.  We also play an interview recorded earlier in the day with Tom Big Warrior of the Red Heart Warrior Society and Rising Sun Press, which is the publisher of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party (NABPP). Tom discusses with BASICS correspondent Nadeen El-Kassem the extremely repressive conditions faced by the NABPP Minister of Defense Kevin Rashid Johnson at the Red Onion State Super-Max Prison in Virginia.

August 2, 2010 – Black August, George Jackson, and Haiti

In this show, we review the history of Black August, a month-long memorial to the martyrs and historic events that make up a long history of African-American revolutionary resistance to American imperialism. We listen to two pieces on Black august, by Kumasi and Mumia Abu Jamal. Later in the show, we interview Kim Ives of Haiti Liberté, Haiti’s largest weekly, on Wyclef Jean’s candidacy for the President of Haiti, and discuss the political context of this move by a figure whose family and personal history has consisted of nothing less than support for dictatorship in Haiti at a time when the Haitian masses are massively boycotting the farcical electoral system in Haiti.

In this show, hosts Kabir and Steve cover news headlines, followed by a discussion with Ajamu Nangwaya on the behind-the-scenes politics of Caribana, discussing why it is that Canada’s most lucrative festival receives so little funding and benefits the least those who do the most to make the festival a success: Toronto’s African and Caribbean working-class communities. Our second interview is with Cynthia Palmaria of the Migrant Women’s Coordinating Body in Toronto. Cynthia talks with us about the upcoming Montreal International Women’s Conference, happening from August 13-16.

In this program, we explore the Maoist-led rural revolutionary movement in India, as we listen to the ‘Radio Free Speech’ documentary ‘Maoist India” The Fight for Economic Justice” and pay tribute to the Maoist leader Comrade Azad (Charakuri Rajkumar), assassinated on July 1, 2010 by the Israeli-trained special police forces of Andhra Pradesh.

June 21, 2010 – Canada Moving to Criminalize the FMLN

In this show, we interview Rene Guerra Salazar, Canadian FMLN activist, concerning the move by Canadian immigration officials to try to deport Salvadorean refugee Jose Figueroa – a resident of British Colombia for 13 years – due to his past ties with the FMLN, which the state is trying to paint as a terrorist organization.
